Lifelong education is not only every child’s right, but rather one of the main drivers of sustainable and inclusive development. We at friends of the Library Ghana, believes promoting literary and a library culture would be a proven way to make education accessible and enjoyable to all. As part of the Millennium Development Goal, The main priorities for education in Ghana, as set out in the current Education Strategic Plan for 2010–20, are:
Improving access to and participation in quality education;
Bridging the gender gap in education;
Improving the quality of teaching and learning; and
Improving management of education service delivery.
The Friends of the Library is a fully owned Ghanaian Non-Governmental Organization, Non-Profit Organization registered in 200 under The Registration of Business Names Act, 1962. The organization was born out of passion to help libraries in Ghana and inculcate reading habits in children and Students across Ghana. Friends of libraries seeks to create various clubs in various libraries and regions to facilitate reading and information literacy amongst schools and communities. Ghana has relatively low-funded libraries, but there are always needs that cannot be met through our annual budget, hence the need for non-governmental organizations to come in the aid of our libraries. Friends of Libraries in Ghana a non-governmental organization intended to be a national membership organization to serve all libraries in Ghana.
