Friends of Libraries Ghana (FOLIG) is a non-profit organization intended to be a national membership organization to serve all libraries in Ghana. The idea of establishing this organisation was conceived by the Executive Director Mr Peter Anafo, in 2009 when he observed that there was the need for a group to voluntarily support the activities and services of various libraries in the country.
Friends of Libraries Ghana started with the support and membership of the following distinguished personalities as executive members:
Mr Peter Anafo of the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa
Mr Jibril Adams of the EPP Books Services
Mrs Ewurabena Ahwoi
FOLIG has since received recognition by individuals, and is vigorously pursuing membership drive activities throughout the country.
FOLIG was registered under The Companies Code, 1963 by the Registrar-General’s Department to be recognized by the laws of Ghana on 27th February, 2009. Consequently, the Certificate to commence Business by the organisation was issued by the Registrar-General’s Department on the 3rd of March, 2009. FOLIG has the following as its objectives:
The establishment, promotion and support of Friends of Library groups through Ghana
To provide a representative voice for FOLIG groups and library users
To promote information literacy in schools and university libraries
Setting up libraries and resource centers to provide reading materials, non-book materials and computers.
To advise and help in organizing schools, colleges and community libraries.
