• The establishment, promotion and support of Friends of library groups throughout Ghana
• To provide a representative voice for FOLIG groups and library users
• To promote information literacy in schools and university libraries
• To liaise with bodies with similar aims, goals and objectives

The main rational of FOLIG is to bring together people (both Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians) who are fully prepared to contribute their knowledge, money and energy towards ensuring the existence of more functional libraries in schools, colleges, universities and communities in Ghana.

Friends of Libraries in Ghana are intended to provide assistance that will augment the image of libraries in Ghana.

• The aim of FOLIG is to support the important work being achieved by Friends groups nationally on behalf of libraries and the service they provide.
• To bring pressure to bear on Politicians, Parliamentarians in matters of library policies and funding for library services.
